It would be best if you also offered your Canary a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, such as carrots and broccoli, as they add vitamins to your parrot’s diet.

Fresh, clean water is a must; Vitamin D3 and Calcium supplements are required if your canaries live indoors. At ABC, we use ‘Liquid Gold.’

A cage is vital for your Canaries; there should be plenty of room for your bird to stretch its wings and fly around. Minimum size of 50x50cm is recommended. At ABC, we sell a large variety of cages, all different shapes, and sizes.

Canaries are easy to breed, and they breed 2-3 times a year between August and December. They lay 4 to 6 small blue eggs, hatching approximately 14 days after the female sits on them.

Chicks leave the nest around 16 days and are fully weaned around 25-30 days. A wire or cane canary nest is suitable to use for breeding. Sterilised feathers or coconut fibre nesting material available from ABC should be provided for your canary to build its nest.

Canaries are native to the Canary Islands, located North-West the coast of Africa. They are beautiful, tiny birds who are best known for their musical whistling. They are tough, easy to care for, and ideal for first-time bird owners. Canaries grow 12 to 14 cm and can live between 7 and 15 years.
